BEHIND THE LENS
“I GREW UP AROUND FILM, PHOTOGRAPHY AND MUSIC – IT’S STUCK WITH ME ALL MY LIFE.”
Before I was born, my father played in a skiffle band. By the time I was eight it was Balkan music, and by my teens, folk. I grew up watching him play and listening to just about everything – my taste in music has always been eclectic.
My grandfather was the filmmaker. In 1950 he founded our local cine society, which is still going strong 76 years later. I remember he always had a project on the go, captured on 8mm film – I often ended up helping out in some capacity.
Ever since my first point and shoot I’ve been capturing the world around me in still pictures. I started specialising in music photography in 2012 and have been incredibly lucky to meet and capture some amazing, talented, iconic people.
I love what I do. It brings together the things that have always mattered to me the most – music, photography, film and being right there in the middle of it.

I chose Canon because I wanted cameras I could rely on without having to think about them too much. The EOS R3 is fast, tough and feels right in my hands – exactly what I need when I’m working in a pit or moving around a festival. It handles low light brilliantly, keeps up when things get chaotic and lets me concentrate on what’s happening in front of me rather than the camera. For the way I shoot, it just works.
